Man On Drugs Slaps Officer, Cop Reacts Swiftly (Video)
A shocking clip showing a Houston, Texas, police officer using a stun gun on a man who slapped him in the face on June 6 went viral (video below).
In the clip, 49-year-old Keith Dean can be seen completely nude holding a stolen can of pesticide spray, KPRC reports. Dean, who had reportedly been spraying people on a train with the pesticide, is seen struggling with a responding police officer. The officer grabs the spray from Dean’s hand, prompting the suspect to slap him in the face.
The officer then stuns Dean with a Taser two times, causing him to fall to the ground.
“That was bad,” Benjamin Marquina, who filmed the clip, told KPRC. “It was shocking to see. It was more shocking that he didn’t get killed or shot.”
Marquina praised the officer for how he handled the situation.
“He didn’t escalate it,” he said. “He could have escalated it into something worse than just a Taser. And that’s a good thing for everyone else to see how it should be handled.”
Marquina said he began filming after spotting Dean naked in the train.
“I heard a commotion and went outside and then I saw the naked man inside the train,” he said.
Dean reportedly told officers he had been smoking marijuana, though a police department spokesperson rejected the notion that the drug would have caused him to do what he did.
“We commend these two officers for their actions in bringing a volatile situation to a safe conclusion,” Houston Police Department Assistant Chief Troy Finner said in a statement. “The male clearly struck our officer, who in turn used sound judgment in holding his composure and gaining control of the scene … thanks to assistance from his partner.”
Authorities charged Dean, a Kansas native who is homeless, with two counts of bodily injury to a peace officer. He is being held in a jail.
Many readers applauded the officer for his handling of the situation, with some saying they would have taken it even further.
“Who knows what he was spraying on the cops…it might have been deadly toxic. Had it been me I would have shot him!” one Mad World News reader commented on the site’s Facebook page.
Another wrote: “Good Job. Thank you for all your hard work.. God bless you all of you.”
“Got what he deserved but was lucky they did not shoot his a** just too many bystanders could have been hit,” another added.
