Man Takes His Own Life After Wife Is Permanently Disabled
An Ohio father took his own life after his wife was left permanently disabled when a group of teens attacked her with rocks. Now, the man’s family says that the teens hold the blame for the man’s death.
According to the Daily Mail, Randy Budd, 55, shot himself in his Uniontown, Ohio, home two years after his wife, Sharon, suffered severe injuries from the attack by a group of teenagers.
Four teens reportedly threw a five-pound rock off of an overpass on the Interstate in central Pennsylvania in July 2014. The rock came crashing through the window of the family’s car while Sharon and Randy’s daughter Kaylee was behind the wheel. The impact permanently disabled the mother.
Now, the family has faced another horrific tragedy after Randy Budd took his own life.
“Randy Budd did not die from a gunshot,” Union County District Attorney Peter Johnson told Penn Live. “He died when those kids threw a rock through his windshield. They killed him like they killed her.”
Following the attack on Sharon Budd, State Senator Gene Yaw introduced legislation that requires fencing all new and renovated overpasses.
Randy texted Yaw prior to taking his own life, “Please het the fence issue settled.”
Just two hours after sending the text, Budd died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Randy and Sharon were the only ones home when he pulled the trigger.
Budd texted his family to tell them that he loved them as well before committing suicide.
Budd is survived by his three sons, Lucas James, and Joe, and his daughter, Kaylee.
The four teens responsible for Sharon’s attack, Dylan Lahr, Tyler Porter, Keefer McGee, and Brett Lahr, were prosecuted by District Attorney Johnson.
A month before his death, Budd condemned the teens and their actions.
“On July 11th it will be 2 years since those bastards decided to throw a 5lb rock off an overpass and totally disable my Sharon,” Budd wrote. “She has been through hell and back. Most recent Sharon was admitted to a rehab facility to try to gain SOME independence. After seven weeks away from her family it was decided that she still needs constant care.”
He continued, “What a shame, she took so much pride in being a productive mother, wife, friend, daughter, mentor, and teacher. We are left with scars mentally, emotionally, financially, and physically.”
In January 2016, Budd said that Sharon had gone through seven major surgeries, during which she lost one eye and a part of her brain.
Following her 7th surgery, Randy called his wife “an inspiration” and said that she remained “upbeat and positive” despite her injuries.
