Man’s Mother Dies, He Does Something Disgusting
A deranged Wisconsin man did something horrifying after his beloved mother died.
AWM America detailed the story of Ed Gein, a serial killer and psychopath who was the inspiration for many movie villains.
Gein was born in 1906 in Wisconsin, and was unusually devoted to his mother. When she died in 1945, Gein decided never to leave home or meet any women. His behavior soon grew stranger, and he started digging up the graves of women at nearby cemeteries. He’d pull out the corpses, cut off various body parts and keep them as trophies. He’d then put the women back in their caskets and fill the graves again, making it look as though he’d never been there.
Not too much later, he turned from robbing graves to actually killing people. He wasn’t as careful with this practice, however, and was arrested in 1957 for the murder of two women. During the investigation, police found that Gein had experimented with necrophilia and human taxidermy.
After his arrest, Gein pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. He avoided trial and was placed in a criminal mental hospital, where he stayed for 10 years. He was then deemed fit to stand trial and found guilty of murder.
Gein died of respiratory and heart failure from cancer in 1977, when he was 77 years old.
Gein’s story was the inspiration for infamous movie murderers Norman Bates (“Psycho”), Buffalo Bill (“The Silence of the Lambs”) and Leatherface (“The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.”)
