Mother Fed Up With Girl’s Messy Room, Crazy Solution Has Some Calling CPS

AmericaNow Staff  ·  September 7, 2017

A mother’s creative disciplining of her daughter for not cleaning her room garnered applause across social media from other parents.

Alice Velasquez took to Facebook to share her story, alongside photos of piles of trash bags in her daughter’s room.

“What do you do when you are DONE telling your teenage daughters to stop letting their room look like homeless people live there?” she wrote. “You put everything (YES EVERYTHING) into plastic bags and you sell it back to them for $25 a bag (and they have to earn the money doing chores).”

“The best part? The bags were collected as they were found in the room- random! So their $25 could buy a bag of dirty clothes, it could buy a bag of trash or it could buy their soccer gear.”

After her post went viral, Velasquez shared a second post reacting to some of the “haters” who criticized her parenting methods:

I do not know when I last received such hateful messages!! FIRST OF ALL, MY PARENTING CHOICES ARE JUST THAT, MINE!! None of you nasty people know me or my children or a single thing about our situation. My children are all loved, treasured, vey well cared for, social, active in band, choir, church youth group, soccer, track, swimming, scouts, study buddies, amongst many other family activities- so before you JUDGE ME, come spend a day with children who have been raised with respect, who have chores and responsibilities and who have parents that take an ACTIVE role in parenting and then form your own INFORMED OPINION!

Despite the backlash, many applauded the woman for her inventive method of disciplining her daughter and teaching her a lesson.

“Awesome response to a filthy room,” one Mad World News reader commented on the site’s Facebook page. “I know her frustration and anger. My child did the same thing. I actually cleaned up the room once and left three outfits and one pair of shoes and she had to earn the other outfits back. I also donated a lot of clothes too.”

“I agree with this mom!” another wrote. “I did a similar thing years ago & it was a success!! The negative posts are made by others who don’t know the family personally & need to tend to their own affairs.”

“Way to go Mom,” commented another. “I think it is a good idea. If they have to buy the stuff back, maybe next time you tell them to clean their rooms they will listen, or now you win’t have to tell them, because they will know what will happen!”
