Mother Arrested For Leaving Kids In Car To Die

A woman from San Antonio, Texas, was arrested and charged with child endangerment after she reportedly intentionally left her two daughters in a car for 15 hours. Both girls died.

The 1- and 2-year-old girls both died at the hospital after their mother, 19-year-old Amanda Hawkins, brought them to the hospital and claimed they collapsed while running around outside at a lake and coming in contact with a poisonous substance.

During the investigation, authorities determined the children were left in Hawkins’ car overnight on purpose. Hawkins and a 16-year-old male friend were reportedly inside another friend’s home the entire time.

“They were in the house all night. The male friend for a little bit went to sleep in the car a little while but then went back to the house,” Sheriff W.R. “Rusty” Hierholzer told KABB. 

According to Hierholzer, someone told Hawkins while she was in the home that they could hear the children crying. Despite warnings, she did not return to the car to retrieve them. Both children were allegedly without food and water for the entire time they were left in the car.

After those 15 hours, the mother allegedly bathed and dressed the unconscious children before taking them to the hospital.

“This is by far the most horrific case of child endangerment that I have seen in the 37 years that I have been in law enforcement,” Hierholzer said. 

Many readers expressed outrage at the death of the two girls, and called for the mother to be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

“Her life is over,” one Mad World News reader commented on the site’s Facebook page. “Even if she only gets two counts of child endangerment in the state of Texas it is a felony She will end up in prison for a couple of years on those charges alone. CPS will go after everything they can hang her on. She deserves everything that she has coming to her. What a sad story.”

“I can’t understand these kids who only care abut having fun,” another added. “They kill there kids because they deserve to have FUN. They must have got confused about fun. And to think someday they will be running our gov. What did the parents do to promote this idea. I must have done it also because i have a kid whose only interested in having fun. Her kids are a mess, more than her. There also demanding fun first. They don’t want to work.” 

“Take her to a large deserted parking lot and lock her in the trunk of the car,” another commented. “Asphalt draws heat and the enclosed space will add a little more umph. The people that knew those children were in that car are also liable for their deaths. Crazy people.”
