Mother Arrested For Offering 3-Year-Old Child For Sex
An Oregon woman has been arrested by FBI agents for trafficking her 3-year-old child for sex, but told FBI agents that she was simply trying to rob a prostitution client.
According to Time, 27-year-old Kelsey Christine Wheeler was arrested by FBI agents on April 14. Wheeler was tracked down after agents, as well as local police, spoke to a man named Barrett Spangler, who revealed that he had spoken to Wheeler on a prostitution website.
A probable cause affidavit states that Spangler was tracked down by police and FBI agents at his house in Eugene, Oregon, because he was suspected of viewing child pornography. He admitted to looking at illicit photos of children and revealed that he had a sexual encounter with Wheeler after speaking to her on the prostitution website, according to the Oregonian.
Spangler told authorities that he met Wheeler at her home in Portland. Wheeler identified herself on the website as Kelly Kox. According to the affidavit, the two discussed taboo sexual fantasies, including sex with children and “mother daughter” scenarios.
Wheeler reportedly offered to let Spangler have sex with her child for $1,000 and told him that she had to be in the room for encounter. Spangler told investigators that he also paid an internet bill for Wheeler.
Portland detectives went to Wheeler’s home while FBI agents spoke to Spangler to check on her child. She agreed to be questioned by investigators after finding someone to watch her child.
During questioning, Wheeler told investigators that Spangler had offered her $6,000 to have sex with her child. She said that she was angered by the offer because of past abuse she experienced, but said that she decided to go with it, with the intention of robbing Spangler.
Agents later discovered that Wheeler was named in a report by Child Protective Services in Las Vegas, which claims that she was found in a room with a man and a child. The report states that everybody in the room was wearing “minimal clothing.”
“When confronted with the evidence of the investigation, Wheeler admitted that it looked ‘very bad’ for her,” the affidavit states. “She understood why investigators thought she was trafficking her child. Wheeler could not provide any evidence besides her testimony that she did not intend to traffic her daughter.”
Wheeler was arrested and booked in a Multnomah County jail, according to the Oregonian. She is currently being held without bail.
Federal court records do not show that Spangler has been arrested for child pornography as of April 17.
