Mother Puts Head Out Of Car Window To Vomit, Something Horrible Happens
An Osceola, Indiana, woman was killed after leaning out of a moving minivan to vomit and hitting her head on an unknown object.
Amanda Ezra was reportedly sitting on someone else’s lap in the passenger seat of the minivan around 4:40 a.m. when she suddenly got sick. When the mother-of-three leaned out of the vehicle, an object outside struck her head. She died a short time later.
Police said they believe the incident was a combination of drunk driving and freak circumstances, WSBT reported. Tim Spencer of the St. Joseph County’s Fatal Alcohol Crash Team said Ezra herself was drinking before she died.
There were four other passengers in the vehicle at the time of the collision. The driver and another passenger attempted to run away after the incident. Both were later caught by police.
Spencer said that the driver, a male in his 20s, was arrested for operating while intoxicated (OWI), causing serious bodily injury and leaving the scene of a crime.
Her family said Ezra was attempting to get her life back on track at the time, and recently enrolled at Ivy Tech Community College to become a teacher.
“You’ve got a 24-year-old child, you’ve raised to be a young adult and has their whole life ahead of them and it’s snuffed out because of a decision that was made and because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time,” Michelle Lyman, who lives near the crash site, told WSBT. “It’s tragic.”
“It’s just a shame of the amount of people that are getting killed in drunk driving accidents, it’s just something that shouldn’t be done,” husband Mike Lyman said.
“And now they’re gone and now all that’s left is broken glass in the grass,” Michelle added. “It’s awfully sad, it’s shocking.”
