Obama Christmas Card Missing One Word (Photo)

The Obama family Christmas card this year sparked controversy for missing one important word — Christmas.

The card shows a picture of the Obama family taken at a dinner that honored Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, with the President posing alongside wife Michelle and daughters Sasha and Malia. The card wished everyone a “happy holidays,” but had no mention of Christmas specifically.

“As our family reflects on many happy years spent in the White House, we are grateful for the friends we’ve made, the joy we’ve shared, and the gifts of kindness we’ve received,” the card read. “We wish you and your loved ones a joyous holiday season and a wonderful new year.”

The card sparked controversy, with many criticizing the lack of acknowledgment for Christmas.

“Obama’s last ‘Christmas’ card. No mention of Christ anywhere. Surprised? Me neither,” radio host Bryan Fisher tweeted in response.

“Merry Christ… er… scratch that. ‘We Are the Obamas and It’s Some Random Holiday!” Sarah Palin joked.

As the New York Post pointed out, however, there’s a history of presidents extending general holiday greetings rather than focusing on one in particular.

“The President and Mrs. Hoover cordially reciprocate your holiday greetings,” the 1929 card from President Herbert Hoover read.

Do you think the Obamas should have included an acknowledgment of Christmas in their card?
