Obamas Reportedly Eye $10 Million New York Apartment

Former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama were reported to have been eyeing a $10 million apartment in New York City.

The family began looking at the apartment even after purchasing a nine-bedroom mansion in Washington, D.C., following the end of the Obama presidency, Page Six reported. The Upper East Side apartment is near the mayor’s mansion and is housed in a historic 1930s building that has been home to fashion designer Gloria Vanderbilt, critic Alexander Woollcott and conductor Andre Kostelanetz. The apartment building boasts a gym, underground drive-in garage and indoor basketball court.

The apartment in question, which was not confirmed to have been purchased by the former first family, has five bedrooms, four bathrooms, a library and a scenic view of the East River.

The Obamas can likely afford the real estate thanks to a $60 million joint book deal and the fees they charge for speaking engagements, according to Page Six.

Despite this, readers questioned how the Obamas could be purchasing such expensive properties because the former president only received a $400,000 salary while in office.

“Better question is where did they get all this money??” one reader commented on America 1st’s Facebook page. “Pretty sure Barack wasn’t filthy rich before his presidency an he only made 400 a year but now they just have millions an millions to waste chasing trump around buying real estate.”

“So the Obamas were worth a couple of million before the presidency and then eight years of being the president paid him 3.2 million that means he would be worth between five or six million , so please explain to me how they were able to buy $18 million in real estate,” another wrote.

“If you can add and count, you know he did not make all those millions on the presidential salary, and it’s any body’s guess where it came from, but you can bet the farm he came by it unlawful, he damn sure didn’t have a second job, or did he?” another added. “And I doubt they had that kind of savings from his job as a community organizer, and we all know a senator doesn’t make that kind of money, although they all seem to get filthy rich while in office. But they seem to be filthy rich doing nothing.”

Others felt that what the couple does outside of the White House is nobody’s business.

“Glad to see the Obama’s still getting under so many people’s skin,” one reader wrote. “Get a life, they are gone from the WH, and living a life they deserve. Your hatred won’t stop anything. Get a life, worry about yours, and you won’t have time to worry about others.”
