Officer’s Glass-Laced Food Believed To Be An Accident (Photos)
Ohio authorities say they do not believe the police officer injured by a glass inside a sandwich on July 18 was intentionally attacked.
The unidentified officer was hospitalized after the sandwich served with glass inside cut his mouth, The Blaze reports.
“[He] bit into the sandwich and felt what was a grisly texture as well as a crunching sound. When he looked into the sandwich, he saw the glass. When he checked his mouth, he saw it was bleeding,” another police officer explained.
Since then, it’s been revealed the eatery’s name is Lincoln Cafe in Columbus, WCMH reports.
Officials promptly closed down the restaurant to further investigation the situation.
On July 19, Columbus police announced on Twitter that “at this point in the investigation” they did not believe it was intentional.
“We have a good customer base,” Leon Lewis, a manager at Lincoln Cafe, said, adding that an incident like this has ever happened before. “The Columbus Police Department supports my business so there are no issues. The Columbus Police Department works well with our business.”
Reports indicate the victim is expected to recover.
It’s not the first time in summer 2016 that glass has been found in somebody’s food at a restaurant, WXYZ reports.
A 3-year-old girl was hospitalized after biting into a glass-laced burger at a Wendy’s in Michigan.
The child’s mother was treating her daughter to a celebration lunch after a dentist appointment, she recalls.
“She bit into her burger, we were inside, and she started to crunch this super loud crunch … that wasn’t normal,” recalls the child’s pregnant mother, Vanessa.
“As I was pulling her food out, I was pulling food out and blood out and I saw particles of glass on my fingers,” she added.
It was later revealed the glass came from a broken light bulb.
“This is an extremely unfortunate accident and we quickly investigated, it appears a light bulb may have broken during maintenance activity in the restaurant,” explained Starboard Group, the franchise owner of that Wendy’s location.
While the child is expected to recover, the mother says the incident deeply affected them.
“You can’t think of your baby and what could happen and the things you don’t know could happen … your mind just starts to race,” says Vanessa.
“I hope to never go through anything like that again … think celebratory lunch at Wendy’s wouldn’t be such a nightmare,” she added.
