Police-Hating Man With Schizophrenia Kills Officer (Photos)
A New York City police officer was reportedly shot and killed by a cop-hating man with schizophrenia.
Officer Miosotis Familia was writing in her logbook on a block in the Bronx when Alexander Bonds, an ex-convict, allegedly assassinated her. Familia was shot in the head 30 minutes into her shift.
“Shots fired!” Familia’s partner screamed into his radio just seconds of the shooting. “I need a f***ing bus! 10-85! 10-85! My partner’s shot! My partner’s shot! Hurry up, Central!”
When officers responded and confronted Bond, he pointed a revolver at them and was immediately shot dead.
“He pulled his gun on them, and they shot him,” a source told the New York Daily News. A bystander was reportedly hit in the stomach with a stray bullet during the confrontation between Bond and the responding officers.
“Make no mistake, Officer Familia was murdered for her uniform and for the responsibility she embraced,” NYPD Commissioner James O’Neill said in a message to his officers.
Bond had a lengthy criminal history, including the 2001 beating of an officer in Queens, New York.
He was also arrested for drug possession and sale, and was paroled in 2013 after serving seven years in prison for armed robbery.
His girlfriend told authorities that he had schizophrenia and was “off his meds and acting irrational and erratic” at the time.
Many readers called for tougher punishments for repeat offenders and career criminals following the shooting.
“Another senseless killing,” one Mad World News reader commented on the site’s Facebook page. “They need to really get tough on these repeat offenders. They are too easily let out jail, too many times, and allowed to commit another crime(s).”
“Just wish the State had taken care of this nut job instead of putting him in time out in the first place,” commented another. “America needs to wake up and nuteralized these thugs. My heart goes out to her family and her family of the police force. They try to keep us safe and pay the ultimate price.”
Others blamed the people who paroled Bond for putting him back on the streets where he was able to kill.
“Thank you to the Parole Board Members for doing such a good job,” one reader wrote. “You should all go to Prison. Your responsibility is to the Public not the inmates. Law Enforcement is part of the Public! This is Absolutely Despicable and you are directly responsible for this Officer’s Death.”
