Rep. Tom Price: Trump ‘Absolutely’ Qualified To Be President
Republican Rep. Tom Price of Georgia, the Chairman of the House Budget Committee, has no doubt that presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump is qualified to be president.
“Absolutely,” Price told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” when asked if Trump is up to the job.
“This is down to two individuals at this point and the question is, ‘Who is better to take this country forward?’ And I think there’s no doubt about that at this point,” Price said.
Price also said a Hillary Clinton presidency would be like adding four more years of President Barack Obama’s policies.
“If you want to codify into law all of the crazy rules and regulations that have been put in place by her appointments to the Supreme Court, then vote for Hillary Clinton,” Price added. “If however, you want change, if you want government to actually work for the people, if you want the economy to get rolling, if you want to make certain that the government isn’t running your healthcare, if you want the government out of energy policy for your backyard, then you want Donald Trump.”
Straight endorsements with accolades from high-ranking Republicans have been somewhat rare for Trump. Although Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan of Wisconsin formally endorsed Trump on June 2, it came after several weeks of public deliberation.
And as recently as June 26, Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky was asked by ABC News if Trump was qualified to be Commander-in-Chief, but refused to give a direct answer.
“Look, that’ll be up to the American people to decide,” McConnell said. “You know, he won the Republican nomination fair and square. He got more votes than anybody else against a whole lot of well-qualified candidates. And so our primary voters have made their decision as to who they want to be the nominee.”
