Scott Baio Tweets Nordstrom Boycott
Actor Scott Baio expressed his disapproval of Nordstrom stores with a tweet he posted on Jan. 11 in which he shared a picture of a Nordstrom Rewards Summary stating that his wife, Renee Baio, had given the luxury department store more than $30,000 in business during 2016.
The tweet expressed solidarity with the Trump family, tagging several Trump family members’ accounts, and stating “NEVER AGAIN!”
Though brief, The Hill interpreted the post as Baio vowing he would no longer be a customer of Nordstrom.
Baio is an outspoken advocate of the Trump administration, as well as having supported President Donald Trump’s campaign for the White House during the Republican National Convention, according to The Washington Post.
Baio’s tweet comes after Nordstrom publicly announced it would stop carrying first daughter Ivanka Trump’s apparel lines, a move Donald Trump criticized. Members of the Trump administration also expressed disappointment at the business decision.
“My daughter Ivanka has been treated so unfairly by [Nordstrom]. She is a great person — always pushing me to do the right thing! Terrible!” read Trump’s tweet protesting Nordstrom’s decision to stop selling his daughter’s products.
Trump counselor Kellyanne Conway followed up Nordstrom’s discontinuation of Trump brand products by plugging Ivanka’s lines on Fox News.
“I’m going to give it a free commercial here,” said Conway of Ivanka’s clothing line during her interview. “Go buy it today.”
Conway was immediately criticized for advocating Ivanka’s business, with some saying her actions were an ethics violation and possibly illegal.
Since then, she is reported to have voiced remorse for her bold endorsement, as well as having been “counseled” for her remarks, according to White House press secretary Sean Spicer.
Nordstrom insists the decision to stop selling items from the Ivanka Trump line was a purely financial one, saying Ivanka’s brand had not been profitable for the department store.
