Serbian Protesters Greet Biden With ‘Vote For Trump!’ Chants

As the migrant crisis in Europe continues to affect the continent, a wave of anti-immigrant and ultranationalist parties have emerged from the United Kingdom straight across to Russia. On an Aug. 16 visit to Belgrade, Serbia, Vice President Joe Biden was greeted by a protest of ultranationalists.

According to The Washington Post, the protestors marched through the city chanting “Vote for Trump!”

The trip was aimed at restoring ties between Serbia and neighboring Kosovo, which broke away from the nation in 1999 following years of war, and which gained independence in 2008.

Beyond a polarizing U.S. presidential race that has seen Biden’s involvement, the vice president and former U.S. Senator voted to authorize President Bill Clinton’s 78-day bombing campaign of the Serbian capital in 1999, reports The Intercept.

“The memories of the loss of the loved ones are still fresh,” Biden told reporters as he apologized for the bombing campaign, notes The Washington Post.

“Trump is the alternative to globalization,” Vojislav Seselj, head of the ultranationalist Serbian Radical Party, told Reuters, notes The Washington Post. “He will destroy old centers of power in the United States and he is a supporter of Russia.”

“I call on brother Serbs who live in the USA to strongly support Republican Party candidate Donald Trump in the upcoming presidential elections,” Seselj wrote on his Twitter page. In a separate tweet, Seselj wrote “F**k you Biden, f**k you…VOTE TRUMP!”

Seselj said in a 2013 statement that Bosnia remains “undoubtedly Serbian.” He added, “If the Muslim fundamentalists don’t like that, they can pack their bags and leave.”

The Intercept further reports that Seselj “helped incite” ethnic cleansing in the 1990s, and labeled non-Serbs “primates” and “excrement” among other terms. In March, a three-judge United Nations court in The Hague, Netherlands, acquitted Seselj of crimes against humanity and war crimes.
