First This Shark Jumped Onto A Boat – Then Things Took A Turn

AmericaNow Staff  ·  July 28, 2017

A group of fisherman in New York were stunned when a shark jumped on board their boat. The incident was caught on film (video below).

Fishermen were sailing off the coast of Long Island in New York when a mako shark shot out of the water and landed on their boat. Shocked and horrified, the group stood back and watched in disbelief, taking pictures and video.

The shark struggled for some time to get back into the water and was bleeding from its mouth after it bit the railing of the boat several times, according to the Daily Mail.

Captain Don Law of Outlaw Fishing Charters came up with a plan to safely release the shark. He tied a rope around its fin while another crew member aboard the ship kept the sea creature’s head facing the ocean by hooking it with fishing line.

The shark can then be seen in the video being lowered into the ocean as Law cuts the rope, setting it free.

“We’re gonna need a bigger boat!” Law joked in the video.

According to the Daily Mail, mako sharks typically measure about 10 feet in length and can weigh from 130 to 300 pounds.

Readers shared their thoughts on the video on the Daily Mail’s Facebook page.

“Pretty sure the shark wouldn’t have given the people the same courtesy but I’m not saying what they did was the right way,” one viewer wrote. “I can understand the panic but it doesn’t look like he could have turned around to bite. I hate seeing this poor creature so panicked & now with him bleeding he almost certainly will be eaten by another shark.”

“If they didn’t catch that shark he would not be trapped on the boat! Now they looks like they are heroes but , simply, they didn’t want a shark for a dinner!” Another user commented. “And also they left the rope around his tail and this rope will not grow with him. poor shark:(“

“Really painful to watch,” another user wrote. “They are more concerned about taking a video than helping the Mako shark and then wait until it starts bleeding from it’s mouth to help. Then they tie it from the tail and cut the rope but leave it tied to the tail.”

“I can clearly see the hook and the line that is stuck in his mouth so all that blood is NOT from biting the rail,” another viewer shared. “AND there’s a rope around his tail !!!! Get your facts right. He is obviously scared and in panic and these idiots just stands there with their cameras?!”
