Ship Reemerges 90 Years After Vanishing In Bermuda Triangle

AmericaNow Staff  ·  November 1, 2016

The Bermuda Triangle has a reputation for causing ships to mysteriously disappear, but the stories usually never end with a ship returning. That’s why it was so shocking when one day, earlier this year, a ship that had been missing for 90 years returned to the Cuban shore.

In 1925, the SS Cotopaxi left from Charleston, South Carolina, for Havana, Cuba. There were 32 men aboard the ship, plus about 2,400 tons of coal. After only two days of travel, the ship became a victim of the mysterious Bermuda Triangle and was never seen or heard from again. Until this year, that is.

On May 16, Cuban authorities spotted a ship near the coast of Havana near a military zone. Authorities tried to make contact with the ship, but heard nothing in response. They then decided to intercept the ship.

When authorities made it to the ship, they quickly realized that it was abandoned and estimated that it was at least 100-years-old. It was then identified as the SS Cotopaxi. None of the coal or men were still on the ship, but Captain W.J. Meyer’s logbook was found, confirming the identity of the ship.

Though the ship was found, it still remains a complete mystery as to what happened to the ship and the crew, and where the ship hid for 90 years before being spotted.
