Brenda Jones, an R&B sensation and previous member of the trio group The Jones Girls, passed away on April 3 at the age of 62.

Jones was reportedly trying to cross a busy street when she was hit by several cars.

Though Jones’ sister, Shirley, gave an account of the singer’s death, authorities are still investigating the events surrounding the death of the famous vocalist.

“My sister was my life, she was probably one of the sweetest people you’d ever want to meet,” said Jones’ sister Shirley, according to Ebony.

“When we lost Val in 2001 that was a real big blow to the family….The bond that we had growing up was unique; it was so special,” said Shirley in reference to the death of another of The Jones Girls, Valorie.

Shirley lamented at the untimely passing of her sister, and was quick to highlight her good qualities.

“She loved people and she loved music, especially, and we plan to try to give her a homegoing that encompasses all of the things that she stood for.”

“The heartbreak is phenomenal. I can’t even imagine going on without her but life will go on. We’re strong and we’re going to persevere in her name. She was truly a wonderful person.”

Shirley spoke highly of Brenda’s dedication to her family, saying that she could commonly be found in the company of her daughter or granddaughter.

Shirley is the only remaining member of the Detroit-based group The Jones Girls. The trio group disbanded after the death of Valorie.

In spite of the break-up of The Jones Girls, Brenda did not lapse in her ambitions as an artist and continued to produce music after the group dissolved.

“She did put out a record over in London a couple of years ago and I think it went to the top 10 on a couple of the soul charts there, but as far as performing she was trying to decide if that was something that she wanted to do again,” recalled sister Shirley.

“She was probably one of the most talented women, her voice was like silk,” said Shirley of her deceased sister Brenda.

During her time with The Jones Girls, Jones helped produce such renowned hits as “You Gonna Make Me Love Somebody Else,” “I Just Love The Man,” and “Nights Over Egypt,” according to Amsterdam News.

The ‘Girls had further opportunities to increase their stardom by singing backing vocals for Aretha Franklin, as well as collaborating with Diana Ross on a number of tracks that went unreleased, according to Soulwalking.

Jones is survived by her two daughters and granddaughter.
