A son gave his parents the most amazing 60th anniversary gift — the exact same kind of car that they cherished immensely until they were forced to sell it decades earlier (video below).

When it came time for Joe and Beverly Smith’s 60th anniversary, their son, Joel, knew exactly what he wanted to get them. On the day of their wedding in 1953, the happy couple drove off in a 1948 Plymouth convertible, which they kept until they had to sell.

“Joe and Beverly Smith were the proud owners of a 1948 Plymouth Convertible until they had to sell it when Joe was drafted to serve in the Korean War,” Hagerty explained in the video’s description.

For their anniversary, their son decided to track down a 1948 Plymouth convertible, buy it for them and have it fixed up, reports HeartEternal.

“That’s beautiful,” Joe exclaims in a video of the moment he saw his new car for the first time.

“We totally kept it under wraps,” Joel said of the surprise. “No one knew about it but a handful of people.”

Joel said he was happy to give something back to his “great parents.”

“It brings back the memories of when we were young and could run around the block,” Joe said.

“It’s so cute going down the road,” Beverly added.

The amazing story quickly went viral, with many applauding Joel for doing something so touching for his parents.

“Such a beautiful thing to do for his parents,” one MommyPage reader commented on the site’s Facebook page. “I love to read about couples who find there soul mate & the love for each other. I never got married nor ever found my soul mate, but it’s beautiful to see others in love & happy.”

“What a fantastic gift to give to your parents and I hope they have many happy years of enjoying the lovely red car,” another wrote.

“Wow !!  !!” another wrote on Hagerty’s YouTube page. “This one brought tears to my eyes !! What a Wonderful video and Great Classic Beauty !!  My God American cars were so simple and Beautiful ..Years long gone.”

“What a wonderful thing to do for your parents,” another commented. “I salute you. If my parents were still here I would do anything to restore and return to them their 1962 Holden Station wagon (Aussie car). It’s so sad that flesh does not age as well as steel. Fortunately our love surpasses both. God bless you.”
