Statistician: Trump Would Win Election If It Were Held Tomorrow
Donald Trump has edged out Hillary Clinton to become the more likely candidate to win the election.
“If the election were today, Trump would likely win,” data blogger Nate Silver tweeted on July 25. “But Clinton’s still favored long-term.”
As Silver’s data science site FiveThirtyEight predicts, Clinton is still the likely victor in November’s election. Clinton has seen a continued drop in her odds since mid-July, but is still favored 53.4 percent to Trump’s 46.5 percent.
July has been a rough month for the Democratic candidate. On July 5, the FBI absolved Clinton of any further legal action regarding her private email server. The move only outraged Republicans and Democrats alike who felt Clinton was given a free ride.
“There is NO justice in America,” one Twitter user posted following FBI Director James Comey’s announcement, reports CNN. “She SHOULD be indicated. Willful, intentional, careless. Why would anyone want her as president?”
“The #SystemIsRigged indeed,” actress and political activist Rosario Dawson tweeted. “So disgusted.”
Following the private server scandal, Clinton and the Democratic Party were rocked by another scandal: On July 22, nearly 20,000 emails from the Democratic National Committee were published via Wikileaks. The emails revealed a strong in-party bias against Bernie Sanders, and led to the resignation of DNC chairwoman Debbie Wasserman-Schultz on the eve of the Party’s national convention.
This rocky month has put a strain on the Democrats, and Party unity still seems elusive.
As Day 1 of the convention began, Rep. Marcia Fudge, a Democrat from Ohio, tried to work her way through some procedural motions, as the crowd booed.
“I intend to be fair,” Fudge began, reports NPR. “I am going to be respectful of you and I want you to be respectful of me. We are all Democrats and we need to act like it.”
