Student Spits On Food, Faces 20 Years In Jail (Video)
A college student in South Carolina was caught spitting and adding window cleaner to her roommates’ food after a fight (video below).
University of South Carolina student Hayley King, 22, faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted, reports The State.
Police charged King with unlawful, malicious tampering with human drug product or food, which is a felony.
One of the roommates ended up eating out of the contaminated container. It is unclear if she had any health issues as a result.
King’s roommates had tried to unsuccessfully force King to move out after a series of fights between them, WISTV reports.
“While Hayley is moving out don’t [expletive] with her,” a text from one of King’s friends had threatened them. “Y’all have been [expletive] taunting her since the semester started. If she tells me you’re [expletive] with her I will personally come and check you. You too old to try to be bullying some damn body. Grow the [expletive] up.”
When they feared retaliation, the roommates installed the cameras that caught the woman tampering with the food.
King’s roommates say the incident left them shaken.
“The aftermath … caused me to fall behind in my classes,” one of King’s roommates said. “I was forced to switch out of one of my courses because I was so distracted with everything going on. This not only affected me physically, having to deal with the repercussions of the incident, but also mentally from the anxiety that came along with it.”
Social media users expressed mixed reactions to the incident.
Some were appalled by King’s behavior.
“People like her need to be locked away in an Insane Asylum for the rest of their life,” wrote one man on Proud To Be An American’s Facebook page. “Clearly mentally ill if she thinks poisoning her roommates is an acceptable form of retaliation to an argument.”
Others wondered if the punishment — possibly 20 years in prison — may be too harsh.
“First. Is this a longer sentence than actually committing murder?” pointed out one user. “Second. Shouldn’t A LOT of food companies be charged with tampering with human food?”
