Teacher Arrested For Sex With Student, Then Police Make A Second Disturbing Discovery About Her
A Rocky Mount, North Carolina, teacher was arrested. She is accused of having sex with three male students.
Erin Elizabeth McAuliffe, a former math teacher at Rocky Mount Preparatory School, was arrested and charged with three counts of sexual activity with a student and one count of indecent liberties with a minor. The charges came on June 8, just over a month after local police were notified by administrators that the teacher might have been involved in relationships with students.
Two of the students, police said, were 17 years old. The third was 16.
“We have been fully cooperative with local law enforcement during the course of their handling of this matter,” the school said in a statement to WNCN.
“I was really surprised,” said local parent Felicia Russel. “I thought that women teachers were getting smarter and better.”
The relationships reportedly took place off the school campus.
“It’s very shocking and appalling that a person would do that with a student,” Dayvon Steel, who graduated from the school in 2016, said.
McAuliffe was held on a $20,000 bond, though records later stated that she bonded out.
Many readers called for the teacher to be held accountable for her actions.
“By law they are not of an age, physically or emotionally able to deal with the out come of these encounters. The laws need to be changed so that it is the same that would be applied to men. These teachers have to have low self esteem that they are unable to have relationships with males of their own age. Take her license away, never allow her to teach in any educational institute, fine her $10,000.00 dollars and jail her for no less than 10 years. The laws must be made more stringent in order for them to understand the gravity of molesting children,” one Mad World News reader commented on the site’s Facebook page.
“Once again I suggest that teachers not be allowed teach any place where their students are less than 12 years younger than they are. They get out of college and go right into a high school where they still see these teenagers as their peer group,” another WNCN reader wrote in response. “Now her career, barely started, is ended permanently. She will not teach again, so that’s a lot of tuition for college wasted. Just make people teach Elementary school until they’re 30. I don’t think that’s unreasonable.”
