Teen Disqualified From Class Election For Trump Speech (Video)

A student from Vero Beach, Florida, was disqualified from his school’s student election for reportedly making a  speech inspired by President Donald Trump (video below).

In the speech, student JP Krause went after his opponent and made references to Trump’s proposed border wall.

“They started going ‘speech, speech!’ kinda jokingly,” JP told WPTV of the 90-second speech he made to classmates. “My teacher was like ‘go right ahead.'”

JP said he thought his speech was satirical — a tongue-in-cheek dig at his opponent.

“She will expand the government so you will not be able to do anything,” JP said in the speech. “She represents Sebastian River High School. What I propose is that we build a wall between here and Sebastian River, and we make Sebastian River pay for it.”

Although JP won the election the next day, school officials disqualified him from the race and gave him detention for invoking Trump’s campaign language and creating “a situation of public humiliation.”

“They talked about how I was harassing the opponent while I was talking about her in my speech,” he said.

Angela Krause, JP’s mother, said she wishes the school had handled the situation better.

“I don’t think there was anything wrong,” she said. “He was being silly. He’s 17!”

The family subsequently received the legal counsel of Pacific Legal Foundation after the case went viral.

Mark Miller, senior attorney with the nonprofit organization, asked the Indian River County School District in a letter to declare JP president and remove the claims of harassment from his record.

“What JP was doing was engaged in the most basic first amendment protected speech, which is pure political speech,” Miller said. “What they did was violate his constitutional rights.”

Many readers called on the school to rectify the situation.

“Amen to this student, I’m disgusted with what the school has done,” one Mad World News reader commented on the site’s Facebook page. “The should compensate the kid for the violation of this kids constitutional rights to free speech. Also there should a public apology to all the parents the student body.”

“This young man SHOULD not only ask to be reinstated as class president but should receive $1 million for each MINUTE he was assigned or served detention,” said another. “No less than 3/4 of that money should come from a PERSONAL lawsuit against the individuals involved as these liberal hacks don’t care if tax payers are the ones for themselves d to pay. Each and every ‘educator’, ‘administrator’, and ‘school board member’ should be forced to attend US Constitution classes 3 times a week for 2 years. Further they should gave a PERMANENT black mark on their records for life.”
