Tombstone From 1890 Issues Warning About Democrats

AmericaNow Staff  ·  December 16, 2016

A photo of a tombstone in Kansas has gone viral for the warning the man chose to leave at his grave.

According to AWM, an Indiana man named Nathaniel Grigsby passed away at age 78 on April 16, 1890. Grigsby served in the Civil War as a cavalry officer. When he passed away, he decided that he wanted to leave behind a message for the generations to become as a warning against the Democratic party.

“Through this inscription I wish to enter my dying protest against what is called the Democratic party,” Grigsby’s tombstone reads. “I have watched it closely since the days of Jackson and know that all the misfortunes of our nation has come to it through this so called party therefore beware of this party for treason.”

It’s safe to say that Nathaniel Grigsby was not a big fan of the Democratic party.

According to the Conservative Tribune, Grigsby survived the Civil War and went on to become a farmer.

Since the photo was taken and shared online, it has spread across social media, with many sympathizing with Grimsby’s feelings, even today.

It should be noted, however, that the Democratic party of the Civil War era is very different from the party we know today. As AWM points out, during the 20th century, major figures in the Democratic party, such as FDR, JFK, and LBJ, began to shift the ideals and the platform of the party, leaving many conservatives switch their political identities to the Republican party.

Despite this, many Americans in 2016 share Grigsby’s sentiments about the Democrats, especially after the heated election between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.

Do you agree with Grigsby’s warning about the Democratic party?
