Trump Applauds Brexit Vote

AmericaNow Staff  ·  June 24, 2016

Donald Trump, the presumptive 2016 Republican presidential nominee, is pleased that the U.K. has decided to leave the European Union (EU), and hopes the American people will re-declare their independence in November by choosing him as president.

“The people of the United Kingdom have exercised the sacred right of all free peoples. They have declared their independence from the European Union, and have voted to reassert control over their own politics, borders and economy,” Trump wrote in a June 24 Facebook post. “A Trump Administration pledges to strengthen our ties with a free and independent Britain, deepening our bonds in commerce, culture and mutual defense. The whole world is more peaceful and stable when our two countries – and our two peoples – are united together, as they will be under a Trump Administration.

Come November, the American people will have the chance to re-declare their independence. Americans will have a chance to vote for trade, immigration and foreign policies that put our citizens first. They will have the chance to reject today’s rule by the global elite, and to embrace real change that delivers a government of, by and for the people. I hope America is watching, it will soon be time to believe in America again.”

Trump’s early morning post has already received more than 45,000 reactions and been shared over 10,000 times.

In a 51.9 to 48.1 percent vote, the British people chose to leave the EU, The Wall Street Journal reports.

U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron resigned from office after the final results of the Brexit vote were announced.

“The people have voted to leave the European Union, and their will must be respected,” Cameron said. “I will do everything I can as prime minister to steady the ship over the coming weeks and months, but I do not think it would be right for me to try to be the captain that steers our country to its next destination.”

Cameron is expected to remain in office until October when his successor should be in place.
