Las Vegas Shooter’s Girlfriend’s Shocking ‘Sick Secret’ Comes Out As FBI Grills Her For Answers
As questions continue to swirl regarding the motives behind the mass shooting in Las Vegas on Oct. 1, new details emerged regarding the way shooter Stephen Paddock treated his girlfriend, person of interest Marilou Danley.
Esperanza Mendoza, an employee at a Starbucks inside the Virgin River Casino in Mesquite, Nevada, said she regularly witnessed Paddock berating Danley while the couple was in line at the coffee shop.
“It happened a lot,” Mendoza told the Los Angeles Times, adding that Paddock and Danley always ordered the same drinks.
“He would glare down at her and say — with a mean attitude — ‘You don’t need my casino card for this. I’m paying for your drink, just like I’m paying for you.’ Then she would softly say, ‘OK’ and step back behind him. He was so rude to her in front of us,” Mendoza said. The employee also said Paddock always had bags under his eyes and “looked like he never slept.”
Mendoza said she was shocked when she saw Paddock’s photo on the news because she’d been “face to face with this man so many times.”
Danley’s sisters, who live in Australia, told NBC News partner Channel 7 that they believe Paddock intentionally sent their sister away before the shooting so she would be spared. He reportedly wired $100,000 to the Philippines a few days before the shooting, but police have yet to say why it was sent or to whom.
“She didn’t even know that she was going to the Philippines, until Steve said ‘Marilou, I found you a cheap ticket to the Philippines,’” one of the sisters said, NBC News reported. “She was sent away so that she will not be there to interfere with what he’s planning.”
“In that sense, I thank him for sparing my sister’s life, but that won’t be [able] to compensate the 59 people’s lives,” the sister added. The sisters asked not to be identified.
Many readers speculated that Danley, despite being sent away, knew in some way that something was going to happen.
“When she’s found to be involved, personally I think she is, I’ve been around firearms my whole life, when we planned camping trips we planned a month or two in advance, yes I know that’s a bad compareason, but you have to know what’s the state law for concerned firearms, so at some point she new what was going on, an to have caused so much death and the wounded, he new what room to rent what weapons to bring,” one Mad World News reader commented on the site’s Facebook page.
“Oh now she’s the victim,” wrote another. “How f**king easy would it be to prove she knew? She shouldn’t be allowed to keep the money and she should be prosecuted for not contacting authorities. I bet phone records would prove she knew. Why would she leave the country to get the money? Because they were trying to hide it.”
