Former bodybuilder and Republican governor Arnold Schwarzenegger was attacked recently at a public event he attended in South Africa.

Schwarzenegger, who is 71, was attending the Arnold Classic Africa, a multi-sport festival that was hosted in Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa, on May 18, 2019. The organization hosts the event for people of all ages across several continents to encourage positive and friendly competition through sporting activities. The event also aims to expose children to sports and teach and motivate them to live a healthier lifestyle even at a young age.

In a video that quickly spread online, it can be seen how Schwarzenegger was taking a video on a phone’s front camera to feature a girl behind him doing jump-ropes for a competition. As he returns the phone to the owner, a man appears, jumps, and kicks Schwarzenegger in the back.

The actor and former governor then stumbles forward into the small crowd in front him and the attacker can be seen being apprehended by security.

Despite the incident, the video further shows Schwarzenegger recovering quickly and continuing to greet attendees at the event before leaving the convention center.

The video, which quickly gained popularity among various social media platforms, gained the sympathy of many viewers. Many also expressed their concern for the movie star and former politician who was thankfully unharmed.

In a tweet by Schwarzenegger, he stated that he initially thought he was “just jostled by the crowd” as it has happened to him several times. He further went on to say that he only realized that he was drop-kicked by the attacker when he saw the video. He also finished the tweet with a humorous note, saying he was “glad the idiot didn’t ruin [my] Snapchat.”

Schwarzenegger further urges the online community to focus on the event’s festivities rather than giving attention to the attacker.
