White House Lit Blue In Support Of Police (Photos)
The White House was lit blue on May 15 in honor of Peace Officers Memorial Day, something some citizens celebrated.
President Trump has lit the White House blue in a pro-police display for Peace Officers Memorial Day, according to the Independent Journal Review.
The move comes about a year after President Barack Obama came under fire for not lighting the White House blue following the police shooting in Dallas in July 2016, despite a request from the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association.
Many were touched by Trump’s display at the White House.
“Amazing to finally see the White Hose lit blue for #PeaceOfficerMemorialDay,” one Twitter user wrote.
Trump said on May 15 that law enforcement officers are subject to “unfair defamation and vilification” that have made their jobs more dangerous and accused other politicians of failing to support the police force, reports The Washington Post.
“You are the thin blue line between civilization and chaos,” Trump said at an annual memorial service for slain officers. “Because you don’t hear it nearly enough, I want you to know that patriotic Americans of all backgrounds truly support and love our police. The very sad thing is that today many politicians don’t want to say that, they don’t want to talk about that, because it’s not politically correct, and they think it might hurt them with voters. I will say it, and I will talk about it proudly.”
Trump added during the service that he would “always support the incredible men and women of law enforcement as much as you have always supported me.”
Readers shared their thoughts on Trump’s action on the Conservative Daily Facebook page.
“Trump lit The White House in blue because he has respect for our men and women in blue, who put their lives on the line daily to protect the public,” one reader commented. “Obama was a poor little rich boy who acted like it was his backyard and if you don’t follow his rules he takes the ball in the house and closes the door. Trump is bringing back respect to this sad nation. God bless America.”
“So beautiful and so nice to have a President that honors our men and women in blue,” another user wrote. “Thank you President Trump for treating them the way they should be treated. With respect and honor.”
Not everyone was impressed by Trump turning the White House blue.
“45 turned the White House blue because he loves to be loved,” said one reader. “Don’t think for one moment he did it to honor our brave men in blue who sacrificed their lives. He even used the memorial service to lavish himself. Everyone saw him and heard him.”
