Weird Noise Leads Cops To Virginia Home, Stunned To Find What Was Lurking In Woman’s Attic

An Arlington, Virginia, woman discovered a homeless man living in her attic after hearing noises above her.

The woman told WRC-TV that she began hearing noises in her attic and became alarmed.

“I heard footsteps above me, and I checked in with my landlord, because sometimes he’s used the storage above,” said the woman, who asked not to be identified. She informed her landlord, who contacted police around 1:30 a.m.

Officers arrived to the home quickly, which the homeowner said made her feel “much safer,” and found 60-year-old Anthony Jones living in the attic.

“As we [officers] were coming up that staircase, they announced that officers were on scene and that if you were in the attic, to come forward,” police spokeswoman Ashley Savage said. Jones was taken into custody without incident and charged with unlawful entry. He was held without bail.

Authorities subsequently found clothing and bedding in Jones’ backpack. It is not known how long he was in the house, but police said they believe he entered through an open glass door.

“It would be scary for anyone,” Savage said.

Savage advised residents to call for help if they heard suspicious noises in their home or felt that someone had broken in.

“We will come and investigate,” he said. “Don’t put yourself in harm’s way.”

Many readers expressed shock over the incident.

“This would of put me six foot under knowing this man was in my attic. Wow but good thing he came out nice and peaceful. Wow,” one Mad World News reader commented on the site’s Facebook page.

“This is one time I don’t think he meant harm. Just looking for warm place. I still don’t understand why people are homeless when there is welfare?” another added.

In another incident, a homeless man was arrested after going on a stabbing spree in New York City and injuring two people.

Douglas Gaston, 50, reportedly attacked two individuals in front of a Salvation Army in New York, and both victims were taken to the hospital in critical condition. Gaston was arrested and charged with two counts of assault, reckless endangerment, possession of a weapon and menacing.

The man, police told the New York Post, had nine prior arrests on his record. The reason for the attack was believed to be an argument that occurred just prior to the stabbing.

Before the stabbing, Gaston allegedly threatened a 15-year-old boy with a pair of scissors. The teen was able to get away unharmed.
