Young Woman Stops Men From Stealing From Grocery Store (Video)
A young woman is receiving worldwide praise after she stopped a shoplifter from stealing from the grocery store where she works (video below).
According to Mad World News, a young woman named Anna, a cashier at a grocery store, was working when a man tried to leave the store without paying for his groceries.
When Anna saw what the man was doing, she jumped into action. The man seemed as though he thought he would get away with the theft, but Anna wasn’t going to give up without a fight.
Anna can be seen in surveillance footage stopping the thief in his tracks and spraying him with pepper spray. As he tries to flee the store after being sprayed, Ann runs after him and drags him back into the store, grabbing him by the shirt.
The viral video includes another clip, in which another man similarly tries to walk out of the store without paying for his items, nodding at the petite cashier as he walks past. Anna again will not let him leave without a fight, however. She runs after the thief, grabs the items he attempted to steal from his hands, and shoves him around a bit before kicking him out of the store, without any of the items he tried to steal.
According to Mirror, the two suspects in the clip in which Anna pepper sprays one man attempted to steal multiple cases of beer from the Helsinki store, when Anna caught and stopped them.
The footage was shared by the owner of the grocery store, Saku Kytola. The video quickly went viral, with more than 100,000 views in several hours, according to Mirror.
Kytola told a Finnish news site that his employees have had to use pepper spray several times to stop thieves from stealing from the store.
“We have no other mode of operation to be able to intervene,” Kytola said. “Police resources are small and the penalties are insignificant.”
Kytola says that he thinks that the increase in theft in Finland is due to the country’s lack of punishment for those who commit robberies.
According to Mad World News, Anna spoke to MV Lehti about the incident. She told the site, “I’m not scared. Pepper spray is a strong defense. Adrenaline kicked in, and I just dragged him back inside.”
She said of the thieves, “They do this so brazenly. Most often they steal alcohol, which is not a necessity, and not, for example, something essential such as food. It’s frustrating.”
