Zimbabwe Woman Births ‘Frog-Like Creature’ (Photos)

Villagers in Zimbabwe were horrified to see the “frog-like creature” a local woman gave birth to, and watched as she was ordered to burn its corpse.

According to the Daily Mail, Precious Nyathi, from the village of Gokwe, in north west Zimbabwe, went into labor at eight months pregnant. When she gave birth, her husband was shocked by what she birthed.

The baby died in the hospital shortly after the birth and when word got out about the “frog-like creature” Nyathi had given birth to, village elders ordered that the corpse be burned in front of the villagers.

“I rushed home and was shocked to see a frog… that my wife had delivered,” Nyathi’s husband told The Herald. “At the hospital they confirmed she went into labor but were equally shocked.”

The couple, shocked by what happened, brought their baby’s body home from the hospital because they said they wanted advice from “village elders as well as our local chief.” Village elders then ordered that the corpse be burnt.

Nyathi later spoke to reporters, saying, “I was expecting a child and this is what the heavens gave us. It’s a hellish experience that will haunt me all my life.”

Photos of the small body lying on a piece of paper in front of villagers was posted online after the story began to spread.

According to the Daily Mail, there has not yet been a medical explanation for the bizarre birth. The local chief says that hospital employees were unable to explain what happened.
